Self-Reflection - Living with Purpose
Related Chapters: Chapter 25 – Creativity • Chapter 83 – Discovering our Purpose(s)
Every human life influences the lives of others. Some influences are intentional, while others occur almost without our awareness. Purpose is not reserved for extraordinary people or dramatic achievements. It is often expressed through everyday choices—how we treat others, how we contribute to our communities, and how faithfully we live according to our values.
Understanding human nature invites more than self-awareness. It invites responsibility. Although none of us can solve every problem, each of us has opportunities to make a positive difference within our own Sphere of Influence.
This reflection explores how intentionally you are living a life of meaning, contribution, and purpose.

Reflection Questions
Before reviewing your score, pause for a few moments and consider these questions:
- What kind of legacy do you hope to leave behind?
- Which of your gifts or abilities brings the greatest benefit to other people?
- What small act of kindness has someone shown you that you have never forgotten?
- If you could improve one small corner of the world, where would you begin?
- What current concern could you transform into purposeful action?
- Which relationships most give your life meaning?
- If a young person observed how you live each day, what lessons about purpose might they learn?
- What important question do you wish had been included?
Sometimes these questions are more revealing than any score.
Interpreting Your Score
49–64 – Living with Intention
Your responses suggest that you have a growing sense of purpose grounded in service, relationships, and personal values. You appear to recognize that meaningful lives are built through many small acts of contribution rather than a few dramatic achievements. Your influence is likely greater than you realize.
37–48 – Growing Through Contribution
You seem to have a healthy appreciation for purpose, although competing demands or uncertainty may sometimes distract you from what matters most. Clarifying your priorities and intentionally investing in the people and causes you value can strengthen both your sense of purpose and your well-being.
25–36 – Purpose Still Emerging
Your responses suggest that your sense of purpose may still be developing or may occasionally become overshadowed by life's immediate demands. Remember that purpose is rarely discovered all at once. It grows through reflection, relationships, learning, and countless small choices made over time.
16–24 – An Invitation to Live More Deliberately
Your responses suggest that you may sometimes feel uncertain about the direction or significance of your life. Yet purpose does not require extraordinary talent, wealth, or recognition. It begins by living according to your values, caring for others, and making whatever positive contribution lies within your Sphere of Influence. Few people change the entire world—but everyone has the opportunity to improve the lives of those whose paths they cross.

A Note About This Reflection
This reflection is not intended to measure your success, accomplishments, or importance. Instead, it invites you to consider how intentionally you are living a life that reflects your deepest values. Purpose is not something we find once and possess forever. It evolves as we grow, as our relationships deepen, and as new opportunities to contribute emerge. Rather than focusing solely on your total score, notice the individual statements where you rated yourself highest. They may point toward ways of living that bring meaning not only to your own life but also to the lives of others.
